Dear Kitestring Studio family,
We want to let you know about a change in Washington State tax law (ESSB 5814) that will affect software customization projects starting October 1, 2025.
Here's an outline overview of the information as it applies to our company and services rendered:
What’s changing?
Custom software is now considered a retail product, not a service, so it will be taxed like retail goods.
This means Washington State sales tax will apply to these projects.
The change affects all buyers, including nonprofits and government agencies.
What this means for you:
Beginning October 1, 2025, invoices for billable configuration and/or development work will include WA sales tax.
Web hosting renewals remain excluded from sales tax and are not affected by this law.
What to do now:
No action is needed from you at this time. Our billing system will reflect these changes on invoices as of this Wednesday.
We recommend reviewing your budgets and contracts for projects scheduled after October 1, 2025.
We’re here to answer any questions and help you understand how these changes may affect your upcoming website projects. Please don’t hesitate to reach out.
Thank you for your continued presence together with us!
Warm regards,
Gabriel & Christine
